Happy Queensland Day, Gold Coast! Every year on 6 June we celebrate the day back in 1859 when Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent and Queensland officially became its own colony, separate from New South Wales. She apparently favoured "Queensland" over the rather less charming "Cooksland," and honestly, we think she made the right call. It is a day for maroon everything, backyard barbecues to kick off winter, and a genuine bit of pride in this gorgeous part of the world we get to call home.
And this year we were asked to be interviewed by the Queensland Government for their social media campaign, where we shared how we give life to flowers after events and weddings, and how we give back to the community.

In the Queensland Government's official All the Best campaign, where the public voted for their favourite local spots across 15 categories, Flowers Gold Coast was voted one of the top three florists in the entire state. We are thrilled, a little bit teary, and incredibly grateful to everyone who threw a vote our way.
The best-voted florist on the Gold Coast
Here is the part that means the most to us. Of the three florists Queenslanders voted to the top, the other two are based way up in Bowen and out in Kingaroy. That makes Flowers Gold Coast the highest-placed florist anywhere in the south-east, and the number one voted florist right here on the Gold Coast.
We are a small florist run out of our studio in Ashmore. We are not a faceless chain or a national order-gatherer pretending to be local. When you order from us, your flowers are arranged by hand by our Gold Coast Florist Team and delivered the same day across the Gold Coast.

To be named the best florist on the Gold Coast by the people who actually live here, the very people we make flowers for every day, is the kind of recognition no shelf trophy could ever match.
A little Queensland Day flower inspiration
If you are marking the day with a get-together, a thank you, or just want to bring a bit of that maroon-and-sunshine spirit into your home, here are a few ideas we love:
- Warm, sunny tones: think golden, amber, and rich red blooms that nod to the maroon spirit of the day without being too on the nose.
- Native Australian flowers: there is nothing more fitting for a celebration of this state than banksia, kangaroo paw, and waratah, proudly grown and unmistakably ours.
- A bunch for the host: heading to a Queensland Day barbecue? A fresh bouquet is the easiest, most welcome thing you can turn up with.
- Just because: you do not need a reason. A little local pride and a vase of fresh flowers is a perfectly good Tuesday.
