Why Peak Season Is Different
Peak season on the Gold Coast isn't just busy — it's a different planning environment entirely. Florists who take on full wedding packages typically work with a limited number of weddings per weekend to ensure every couple gets the attention their day deserves. When those spots are gone, they're gone.
During spring (September–November), experienced Gold Coast wedding florists can be booked six to eighteen months in advance. It's not uncommon for couples getting married in October or November to secure their florist the previous October — a full year out.
The flowers themselves are also a factor. Spring is peak season for some of the most-loved blooms — peonies, sweet peas, ranunculus, and garden roses are all at their best, and demand from florists across the country increases accordingly. Florists who plan ahead are able to secure allocation from growers; those who don't may find their preferred blooms simply unavailable.
Your Peak Season Booking Timeline
12–18 Months Before: Make Contact Now
Don't wait until you have every detail finalised. Reaching out early — even with just a date, a venue, and a rough feel for what you're after — is enough to begin the conversation. A good florist will guide you through the rest.
At this stage you want to confirm:
- Is your date available?
- Does the florist's style align with your vision?
- What's their process, and what does an initial consultation involve?
If the answer to those first two questions is yes, book a consultation and get the date secured. You can refine the details later.

9–12 Months Before: Design Consultation
With your date locked in and your venue confirmed, this is the right window to sit down and work through your floral vision in detail. Share your mood boards, venue photos, and colour palette. A good florist will build a concept around your specific wedding — not a templated package.
This is also when you'll receive your full quote. Review it carefully, ask questions, and once you're happy, pay your deposit to formalise the booking.
6 Months Before: Confirm and Relax
By the six-month mark, your florist should have your design direction locked in and your order in their planning calendar. You'll do a final refinement conversation closer to the date, but the core decisions are made.
4–6 Weeks Before: Final Confirmation
Quantities, final flower selections, logistics, and the day-of run sheet. Any last changes should be communicated here — after this point, your florist will be placing live orders with their growers.
What Happens If You Miss the Window?
If you're reading this six months out from a peak season wedding date and haven't booked yet — don't panic, but do move quickly. Some florists will still have availability, particularly for smaller weddings with more flexible flower choices. Reach out now, be upfront about your timeline, and be open to their guidance on what's achievable.
The worst outcome is leaving it until eight weeks out and discovering that the florists whose work you love are fully booked. At that point your options narrow significantly.

A Few Things Unique to Spring on the Gold Coast
Peonies are peak season but allocation is limited. If peonies are important to your vision, this needs to be part of your very first conversation with your florist. Grower allocations fill early.
Venue competition is high. Many Gold Coast hinterland venues — Coolibah Downs, Valley Estate, Tall Trees — are fully booked for spring weekends over a year in advance. Your florist may already be familiar with your venue's logistics, which is an advantage worth considering when choosing who to book.
Setup windows can be tight. Multiple weddings across a weekend means your florist will be working to a specific timeline. Understanding the setup window at your venue, and communicating it clearly, ensures everything runs smoothly.
